Community Service Google-Style
One of the most overlooked ways we can contribute to society as a whole, especially with the importance of technology to everyday life, is through our participation in Google’s many different avenues of assisting others like Google Maps, Get Your Business Online, and the Local Guides Program. It may seem like an odd form of community service, but just recently I was informed by Google that my contributions to their different programs had helped over a million people find a business or other entity in the various cities where I had contributed.
Think about that number for just a moment – One Million. That’s an incredible amount of value for simply posting an image to a Google platform like Maps. Imagine if we all took the time to do this for our neighbors and visitors to our cities. That’s not to say I did anything special. All it took was taking a picture of the places I visited; literally two seconds. When you take the time to do this the first few times, actually try to remember it, you’ll find it becomes habit pretty quickly.
If even a few of the readers of this took even a few pictures when they were out and about, there would be far fewer people looking in the wrong places for the things they want. The total amount of frustration that could be eliminated from the world is a worthy cause if you ask me, and all it takes is a few seconds of time. There’s also the pretty awesome feeling that comes with knowing you’ve helped that many people in even a little way. Give it a try the next time you venture out.
